Mental Health
Positive mental health
refers to more than just the absence of mental illness. While there are many definitions, most experts suggest that positive mental health refers to the capacity to enjoy everyday life, while effectively coping with daily demands, changes, and challenges, as well as times of adversity, disappointment and even tragedy.
According to a 2009 survey of University of Toronto students,
15.8% of respondents reported that depression negatively impacted their academic performance
(received a lower grade on an exam, important project, or in a course; received an incomplete or dropped a course; experienced a significant disruption in thesis, dissertation, research, or practicum work).
25.3% reported that anxiety had the same impact.
